Our township clerk is an invaluable asset to the efficient and orderly operation of Kochville’s municipal government. The clerk has custody of all township records, books, and papers, keeps a separate account of each of the funds belonging to the township, and is in charge of elections. Kochville Township has also designated the township clerk as our Freedom of Information Act Coordinator.

Deputy Clerk
The deputy clerk is authorized to act as clerk in the event of the clerk’s absence, sickness, death, or disability. He or she may provide assistance at other times, as well, but may not vote as a member of the township board. The deputy clerk is appointed by, and serves at the discretion of, the clerk.

Accessing Public Records
All of Kochville Township’s documents, barring exemption, are open to public inspection through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). In accordance with FOIA (MCL 15.231, et seq), the public also has a right to copies of current non-exempt public records and may request copies of future public records in advance for up to six months.

For access to public documents, individuals can pick up a FOIA request form at the Kochville Township Offices. Once submitted, the FOIA coordinator will review your request to ensure that the material is non-exempt. Exempt materials include information of a personal nature, some investigation records, appraisals of property to be acquired by the township, test questions, some communications and notes between township officials, personal property tax statements, campaign committee records, security measures, and other sensitive information. Requests must be responded to by the clerk within five business days. In an unusual circumstance, the township will issue one 10-day extension to provide the clerk adequate time to address the request. If a request is denied, the requestor may appeal the clerk’s decision to the Township Board of Trustees or may seek action in circuit court.
